This is a handmade woodblock print using a Japanese block printing process developed well before the industrial press.
I have created the image, then transferred it onto blocks of wood. Each block is then carved according to the colour to be applied, and hand pressed using a barron (a hard, flat handheld implement) to transfer each colour individually to the paper. This makes up the final print. I have used Japanese rice paper which is sympathetic to the image and the process. Each final woodblock print has its unique quality.
Medium: Multicolour Wood block. Oil based inks on Japanese paper, hand pressed.
Edition: 70 in the edition.
